Crowfunding: Candice by George Watson
Turn the Slate Productions has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the new short by 'Twelve' director
George Watson is an award winning director who began his career in documentaries before switching into fiction. He was nominated for Shots new director in 2013 for his short film Child, loosely based on the relationship with his father, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and also screened in front of Ben Wheatley’s Sightseers at the 2012 London Film Festival. His latest short film Twelve starring BAFTA winning Monica Dolan and BAFTA nominee Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones) was screened at the 2014 London Short Film Festival.
Turn the Slate Productions, the award winning production company founded by Alexei Slater and Jessica Turner in 2011, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise £3,000 towards the budget for Watson’s new short film, Candice, starring Olivia Poulet (The Thick of It, In the Loop) and Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy, Marcella). Produced by Dom Riley and written by Alexei Slater, Candice is a short film about what happens when we get talking to strangers in the modern urban jungle and how we build new relationships in a world where we have never been more connected electronically, but have never been more isolated socially. The film follows Candice, a lonely thirty-something, around East London over the course of one fateful night as she learns that first impressions aren’t always everything.
This is the company’s 5th short film. 82 (2012) by Calum MacDiarmid starring Nick Moran as a corrupt postman in quiet suburbia, won 15 awards. The short can be seen here.
