Arianna is the title of the promo-short realised by Roman director Carlo Lavagna to promote the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo he has recently launched and that was premiered on Nowness. The goal is to collect €80.000 that will be part of the overall budget for the making of a feature film whose first take is scheduled in May. The promo is a beautiful micro-doc introducing to the story by assembling archive footage and endearing graphics narrated by a voice over with an editing technique similar to that we’ve seen in A Brief History of John Baldessari. The result is amazing and makes this promo a little masterpiece in its own.
The film will deal with the delicate issue of intersexuality (commonly known as “hermaphroditism”) in contemporary society touching the topic of identity and gender. It will start from the story of a nineteen-year-old girl (Arianna), who believes to be a “normal” girl, until getting to know the secret inscribed in her own body. The film is dedicated to the experiences of many intersexed people in the world, whose stories and whose struggles against the medical procedures for the premature assignation of sex are increasing from year to year. Part of the incomes of the campaign will be donated to organizations that are supporting the project: ILGA and OII, which are the world’s largest association for gay and intersexual rights.
